Hi I am new to this sight but as a woman who knows very little about cars I thought it was worth a go. I have an 8 year old Ford KA which failed it's MOT last week. The things it failed on were:
o/s tyre
o/s macpherson strut has excessive movement at the upper attachment
n/s rear coil spring cracked
o/s rear coil spring crack
n/s rear suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement

I went and had the tyre done straight away but the garage has quoted me 400 for this work - does this sound reasonable?

parts will cost you fifty five pounds ish and labour is about two and a half hours,or it could be quicker depending on how long the bush takes to press out of the axle .At a franchise dealer its about depending again where you are anything from 65 to 90 pounds an hour .
ok _ the tyre you have replaced.... does the 400 include the cost of new tyre? ---- and the mot fee is in addition to the quoted 400 ? ---- anyway if the NSR and OSR , coil springs are cracked then , they will cost parts about forty-fifty pounds for the pair ? (very rough est. by LAW DROP OUT) ------- OS MACPHERSON strut , i think this is on the front .... is the MACPH STRUT GOING to be replaced , or is Welding needed where the MACPH. STRUT is attached ?? , it says "excessive play " on MACPH., STRUT . simply ask the garage is going to need welding on the MACPH STRUT O/S , or welding ? --- (as for the NSR suspension arm bush DETERIATED/ RESULTING in exceesive movement - I think ill comment on that in a separate reply - S2392 ------ from A level law drop out

The os spring snapped on my wifes KA and with other assorted bits a pieces that needed doing + the mot it came to around the 400 mark.
I would ask an independent garage to check the work needed and ask for a quote, the other thing to me that rings alarm bells is, its all on the o/s. sounds like you might (and im not trying to worry you) ask an Independent garage to check your suspension arms for cracks! Good luck. Please post on hear and let us know how you get on!
Scrap it, I hate the Ford KAck....
broken coil springs are an exremely common fault im afraid, same as the older fiestas which use the same running gear.
