Passing The Biblical Buck
6 Answers
The biblical story basically follows as God made everything He made the planet Earth He gave it creatures and plants etc. He made humans to tend to the planet and it's contents. He gave us free will, not to worship him but to live freely. We have never really learnt by our mistakes so why didn't the supposed God wipe us out and start again just like the dinosaurs instead of sending his son (if you believe the story) to be killed and learn by our mistakes again? Who made the mistakes in the first place- God or Humans? Does the biblical God not have free will aswell to do as he pleases and cause mayhem and pass the blame to us?

So we blame God for any number of historical wars, naughty evil people (Hitler etc), famine, corruption, natural disasters, the hole in the Ozone, melting ice caps etc etc.
Maybe the slow and steady destruction of our natural / built environment is indeed the work of God but it takes a long time to destroy the habitation of the planet? Or perhaps He is taking His time in the hope that we learn our own lesson and realise we need to change the way we live to save ourselves and preserve our ecosystem.

The analogy used throughout the Bible, of God as Parent and human beings as children is a good one. What kind of parent wants to see their children suffer, but what kind of parent wants to restrict their children to such a degree that they never become truly independent? There is a view that we give our children only two things of real value - roots and wings. Imagine the depths of despair that a parent must feel to reach the point where they wish that their child had never been born? Do I blame my mother and father for having me, for raising me as best they knew how, for equipping me, however inadequately, for adult life? Do I look backwards in criticism, or do I accept that my life is mine to make, mend or mar?
Why does God let evil happen? Well why do we? My taxes pay for the roads and the police. My votes elect the government. I walk away from local and national politics and show no interest in questions of availibility of alcohol, severity of sentencing or rehabilitation of offenders apart from mouthing off in the pub. Then the daughter of a friend is mown down by a drunken motorcyclist who kills himself in the process. Is it logical at such a point to even frame the question - 'why did God let it happen?'
Apples fall downwards, time goes forwards, sh*t happens. We are all born, we all die. We are judged on what we do with in between.

It seems regardless of the life we choose to live, we have no hope of a favourable judgement unless we believe in this God. We could be veritable saints (in the loosest sense of the word), but unless we believe, then we're doomed. On the other hand, if we believe in this God, but nevertheless choose to be pretty mean and uncaring in this life, we'll get a pat on the back anyway when we finally reach the pearly gates because we've achieved the criteria. It makes no sense whatsoever.
