Vauxhall Corsa Gear box problem

I was not able to get first gear or at times second gear in my vauxhall corsa this morning. Its only 5 years old and wondering what is wrong with it ?
Grateful for your help as my vauxhall garage is very expensive and I think they might be guilty of exaggerating at times !!!

Both my daughters had this problem last year on 03 reg Corsas.

Vauxhall garage charged �150 to replace the gear linkage.

My vote is with the others, most probably the gear linkage. My Corsa had it changed at 2 years old and by the feel of it will need another one soon.

Thank you for your answers. I was so jittery driving a car that sometimes refused to go into 1st or 2nd gear I took to the garage and it was the gear linkage that required changing. It cost me �171 and half a day off work ! I have written to Vauxhall to complain as never had this problem with my last Corsa and it had done twice the mileage and did check out the problem on google as suggested.
