weddings abroad

hello, just wanted to ask if anyone on here has got married abroad. my fiance and i were planning the whole big white wedding thing but we've had a change of heart and would rather just disappear off somewhere on our own (we were thinking New york, or possibly San Francisco)

i've done quite a bit of research and i think i've got my head round all the legal requirments etc but it'd be lovely to hear other peoples experiences and suggestions

Hi Ketchupkid, I'm planning a wedding abroad too and have found the forum on this website really helpful:

We're going to disappear with nearest and dearest only because we don't want to hassle, attention and expense a big wedding here brings. When you're travelling that far you can just ask the people you really want and do everything exactly the way you want it - for us it is the perfect solution.
