At 8pm tonight will you be participating in Earth Hour and will you just be turning out the lights or doing more?

I shall switch off all in the Aprilis household except for the TV (to keep Mr A & Aprilis jnr happy), the PC (to keep me occupied and yes, I can type in the dark!) and the fridge & freezer (for obvious reasons). All else will be unplugged.

Will AB be a ghost town between 8 and 9pm or will you all be sitting at your computers typing by candle/torch light? lol

My mobile is still in my coat pocket from yesterday and I haven't checked it today Knobby. I'll go and do it right now...brb....
Question Author
That's quite funny Knobby but if I ever look that ugly you have my permission to shoot me!

Abdul, while you are out driving your 4.2L motor vehicle, will everything be switched off chez Wardy? If so, you are forgiven....by me anyway!
Well I will switch the leccy of and play with me battery operated scalextrick.

Won I.

But how will you see it to align the cars on the track Nutjob?
Didn't know we were supposed to turn things off. I live in a pub so if I turn the electric off then I guess we'll have some very p!ssed off customers. So nope everything will remain on for me.

Any small contribution will help mistys. Unplug mobile phone chargers for instance. There's probably something that could be unplugged/switched off that you wouldn't miss for an hour.

It's up to you of course :o)
Well if I stay on the computer then the tv, lights, etc will be off in my room. Or if I go into the bar then most the upstairs lights will be off. I'll see what I can do :o)
Audi Q7 knobster. An old Jag indeed. Who do you think I am Phil Mitchell???

Aprilis, apart from my car I am very green. I off set my car carbon footprint very well with little measures like booking all my flights whilst donating to a tree being planted, rain water in my loo, recycle most things, shower not bathe, grow some of my own veg, shoot my own game birds, buy local produce etc etc etc.

I am not that bad, honest.

Very nice car Wardy but isn't that considered an estate car? Very unusual choice for a man such as yourself I would have thought.

At 2.5L my car is about as juice guzzling as I'm prepared to get!
Actually Aprilis, any small contribution wont help.

Too little too late.

Any benefit from this idea is almost immediately wiped out by the industrialising Chinese.
I wish I paid Estate car car-tax!!!!.

I would consider it a 4x4. But I do live in the countryside (at the weekends and school holidays) so I am not of the Chelsea Tractor Brigade.

Around town I am getting 10-12 mpg, which isn't great. But I have had worse, I suppose.

Ah! Not true rabbitygirl!

The whole point of Earth Hour is to show people that everyone's small efforts can make a difference when all are added together. Earth Hour, if enough people participate, will have an effect on the amount of non-sustainable fuel consumed during that hour and prove that if we try, we are capable of making a difference.

It's not meant to offset the Chinese contribution to global warming. I think that might require something a bit more radical than Earth Hour! :o)
Question Author
Wardy, I have just seen one and like you would consider it a 4x4. It looks nothing like an estate despite what the car dealers may call it.

My car is also a 4x4 and I too live in a rural area, so don't consider myself one of the Chelsea tractor brigade either. I make no claim to be a total greenie, but I do like this idea of proving that just a little effort from everyone can make a big difference.
