old poem of my father's
3 Answers
I wonder if anyone can help?
My father used to tell me a poem when I was a child, it started:-
"Last night I bought a pound of cheese
It made the Parson sneeze,
The cat had a fit in the cellar and the dog had the same desease."
It goes on with several more lines.
I wonder if anyone else had heard this poem? I have never seen it written down and had to ask my father to say it slowly so I could write it down, but as he died a few years ago I can't ask any more about it.

And the beautiful picture of Mother
Walked out of its golden frame.

Thanks Josie,
Although your words are slighly different from the ones I know, it is obviously the same poem. I did wonder if my father had made it up, but now I know he didn't.
another bit is
"The chairs began to walk
And the Table did the same
And the beautful picture of Grandpa
Fell out of its golden frame.
Grandad's whiskers on the bread
And the butter was hard as lead
If you whistle to the sausage it will roll
.........made the parson sneeze
And the flavour of the cheese stopped the clock
Tick Tock."
The last couple of lines are muddled I think but I think that is all of it, somewhere I have a written copy but it is a "safe place" - we all have one don't we!
Let's hope some else can assist.
