Divorce & Maiden Names!!!
Hello folks! Once one is possession a decree absolute, can I automatically revert to my maiden name without going through any further process OR would I need to change it back by deed poll??? I ask because I have share certificates & other legal documents in my married name which I need to change. Obviously I will seek legal advice, but I was just wondering! Thank you.

You need to swear a Statutory Declaration on Change of Name. A solicitor can draw one up for you (and charge you for doing so) but if so, I think you still have to swear the document at a different solicitor's office. So you end up paying the fee for drawing up the document, plus a fee for swearing the document - although usually most solicitors put the swear fee in a charity box these days. It costs around 5.00 to swear a document, and an additional fee for each exhibit that is attached to it.
If you want to do your own stat dec and just swear it y ou can get an idea of the format from http://www.swarb.co.uk/lawb/prcDecChangeName.shtml
