power steering noise inside car?
I can hear a whining noise inside my car which i am assuming is coming from my power steering as when i move my steering wheel it gets louder but lowers again when i stop turning it.Is this okay or is there possibly something else wrong.As i say its a whining noise and there is no knocking or thumping noises.My car is a 1.6 vauxhall astra club

If you put full lock on and keep turning you usually get a similar noise. Check the fluid and the pipes leading to the fluid resevoir. I had an Escort once (someone had to) and the pipe came off tot he power steering and made a rightmess of the engine bay. Have a look as soon as poss. It may need topping up which is a very easy thing to do. If it's all Ok then there might be something else that a mechanic needs to look at and therefore is a safety isue and better of getting someone to check it out properly.
