I shall start my condemning of the company which made my central heating boiler here.
I am about to have a new heat exchange unit fitted to my 6 months old boiler.
I have waited since a call out on 13th March.
Luckily we have been able to keep it working but if we hadn't we would have been cold and without hot water for 2 and a half weeks. They are only coming today because some units have been 'released'. ?????
The company is Ferroli.

who recommended the boiler to you? you know that even the top choice units develop faults, some surprisingly quickly
my son had a ferroli in his last house and it never let him down but in his new home he has a powermax 140 and this unit does not enjoy a good reputation, even though it is now owned by baxi potterton. while checking it out on google i came across a list of recalled appliances by the london fire brigade and there are a lot of household names on there

Hi terence. The boiler has been fixed today by a ferroli engineer. I have waited 2 and a half weeks for a heat exchange unit to come in from Italy. I am told some take much longer. So sure are they of their boilers that, while you can get new ones aplenty from their uk base (near me) they do not have this part on the shelf, and wait for it from Italy.
3 out of 4 plumbers recommended Ferroli to me, based on price, reliability, parts nearby, 5 yr guarantee.
We had gas pressure problems at first (this boiler went in last August) but after this was sorted we still felt the boiler wasn't right. But no one listened or checked it properly. All we knew was we should have been warmer, the water hotter. Because it had so much attention with the pressure problem we were told nothing wrong with the boiler.
Still, a different plumber convinced us to have the same boiler for our refurb project. Eureka, this Victorian end terrace was hotter than our little bungalow. We knew then we had a lemon at home.
Ferroli came out on 13th March. The heat exchange unit is faulty from new. I was told 2 weeks, probably sooner. But I have been left without a word of when the boiler would be fixed (we have kept it going). Ferroli know my contract is with my plumber and can ignore my one letter and 2 phone calls. This is not acceptable.
They could have handled this better with some proper customer service, keeping an important part on the shelf and finding a way of identifying faulty parts before fitting them to a unit. I will not be having any more Ferroli boilers in any future projects because of my experience.

hi again i found your answer interesting because you took the trouble to explain exactly why you were unhappy, most people would just say that this or that brand is poor.your answer took me into an area i had,nt previously considered. many thanks for that.
i also live near ferrolis base, in fact i passed it on sunday pm when i went to referee a rugby match at peel croft in burton. small world eh ?

Hi again terence. Actually typing out my answer to you made me think too. Already I'm thinking, I suppose it wasn't that bad, could have been worse (we were actually quite chilly here tho) and these things happen.
But parts availability was pushed by all 3 plumbers I had quotes from and my installer has been very surprised at the parts situation.
It was no trouble really. I am a gas bag !!!! I live in Derby and you may see me outside Ferroli one day with a placard if they upset me any more!
