Deleting letters/ characters in front of the cursor on a Mac.

If you're on "Word" or other document writing applications on a Mac running office, how would you get rid of text IN FRONT OF the flashing line thing which shows you where to write stuff. It would replace the "delete" button on any normal keyboard. Backspace removes the characters behind the flashy thing.

the flashy thing is called a curser

hold down the function key and use delete should do what you want

Fn-Backspace.

(This is assuming you're on a laptop keyboard; full mac keyboards come with the regular delete key, in the position you're used to.)

Ok thanks guys. Yeh that works! I was going to say cursor but I thought that was the arrow projected with the use of the mouse.

It's a name for both really; mouse cursor is more popular though I guess now.

One other name, still used in Emacs circles, etc., is 'point' for the cursor in a text document.
