Hard boiled eggs!

In recent times I have been having problems shelling hard boiled eggs. I don't seem to remember this problem years ago. Now when shelling, the membrane sticks to the surface of the egg rather than the shell, and consequently it is very difficult to shell and more often than not results in part of the white coming away with the shell. Any ideas for foolproof shelling?
As I'm just into the 'pickling eggs' season, all suggestions gratefully received.
