Hi, well logged on to my current account online and found that somebody has used my card number to purchase a top up of mobile phone. Luckily they used 30 and of course I got the card "stopped".

Through investigation I have found the top up was made via Tesco in Chestnut, England and I live in Northern Ireland.

Can anybody explain to me how a person got my card number. I cannot work it out at all.

This happened to me about 5 years ago whereby I used to only get statements and found I was short by 580. Luckily building society reimbursed me at their good will. Now I am sceptical at using my new card.

I have bought goods online. Thanks for any advice.

They may have got it via you using a dodgy cashpoint, or if you unknowingly used a phishing website.
My husband also had his Barclaycard used for two 50 Orange top-ups in England whilst we were on holiday in Malta. He reported the theft immediately he spotted the transactions on his statement & was reimbursed.

We suspect that his details were taken by a Hertz employee in Malta when we were hiring a car & passed on to someone in the UK.

what happens now - do you keep on using the "new" card until it happens again.

if it had been a large amount would the building society ALWAYS reimburse you.

My friend has told me an insurance thing she pays into for card fraud but I think it is abominable that I should have to pay when the money is under the care of the building society. Anybody know what to do. thanks
