i have wanted a dog my whole life but my parents say no because my dad dosent like dogs(crazy,right) and we are not home enough. How can i convince them to let me get one?

Listen to your parents! You can't have everything you want. If you are not home enough and you really like dogs then don't get one until you can provide a suitable and wanted home for it. It is not fair on the dog.

They seem like good reasons for you not to have a dog. If you're dad doesn't like dogs then isn't a bit unfair to force him to be around one? There's plenty of time for dogs when you leave home. Dogs need company most of the time and some don't cope very well with being on their own. I would leave it until you can get your own in your won house.

Seriously though, Holly, if you are not home enough than that is all I need to hear. Dogs need constant attention and company, which is one the reasons I cannot have one, and I am 35, and live with a friend. I am out driving buses for most of the day, so will just have to content myself with cats for now.

My folks also said I'd have to wait until I had my own place. Eventually I had a lovely dog for 18 years. That's how far you've got to look ahead before taking one on. Don't try to 'convince' your parents! They know if you go off to uni/travel the world/etc they'll be left holding puppy. There's plenty of time - enjoy life!
