how do i remove the steering wheel in a ford escort ?? iv done it on other cars but not one with a airbag, also the airbag warning lght is constantly flashing can anyone help???
i dont think that removing the steering wheel is going to solve your problem, its quite a common fault on a lot of cars, its a circuit fault on the airbag sensor, either get a garage to renew the sensor,or take the bulb or fuse out,but remember the airbag wont work then ok,better to fix the sensor
thanks but i need to remove the steering wheel anyway as iv had the tracking done but the wheel isnt straight, you say removeing the bulb meens the airbag wont work, does this meen that its safe to remove the steering wheel after removeing the bulb
Ive got a P Reg escort and had the same "flashing airbag" light problem - theres a connector on the floor on the outside of the Driver seat (and passenger seat) underneath the plastic cover similar to a phone socket fitting, took that out and reinserted it and the problem went away - figured it was some connection problem with the connection.
If you have tried the 2 connectors (1 under each seat)
And that did not cure it
So I tried swapping the 2 pretensioner units
This also made no difference
So I decided to find the controller unit so I could see if its connector was ok
But sadly its not shown were it fitted in the workshop repair book
So I went to the local scrappy and followed the looms
Found one with the seats removed this helped
Removed the carpet
The loom starts at the passenger seat (UK cars) goes over to the drivers seat (under the centre console) and joins the loom from the drivers seat
Then as a pair the run down the side of the sill towards the front of the car behind the kick panel (next to accelerator pedal) and up behind the dash
But heres the tip behind the kick panel is another plug and socket
Try cleaning that one it has now cured my flashing light
