Is my PS2 console Broken

can anyone tell me what is wrong with my Slimline PS2 console.
When I put a new game in my PS2 console it always seems to scratch the game disk a lot and than the game dosnt work any more. Is me PS2 console broken. I have had it a long time but would hate to get rid of it as I love it too much.
I have tried to clean it inside but still scratchs the disks.

short answer....... yes

It sounds like the laser reader or part of it has become loose and it sitting too high therefore scratching the disk.

try using a soft clean cloth to push down gently on anything that may be sticking up. Incidentally do the discs get scratched all over the disc or just one circle. If one circle then it is unlikely to be the laser mechanism as this moves to read the disc.
