Hello there,...just bought an old 1043cc Polo off ebay.

Two things...

1st: The brakes are awful! Is there any way they can be swapped for a better brake set up? Maybe from a later model?

And secondly: The car cuts out when coming to a stop...(which is really great!) and so would really appreciate any tips that could rectify this too.

Many thanks in advance

Robstene :)

Thanks Dave..yeh I know its a poo car...but I like old bangers!

Have you checked out the bangernomics web site!

I'm not mechanically minded...though a friend is a top notch mechanic.

How much would it cost to get fitted '4pot brakes' ?

Thanks mate...

I'll see what I can do.

The car was MOT'd back in Jan' 08....are the polo mk2 brakes known to be that bad..? It just seems so bad compared to a normal modern car...

I know they're servo brakes (?) but just worried that maybe even these are maybe not working right?
im presumin you would need the 2 front calipers uprated flexi pipes and an uprated master cylinder at least and thats just for the front brakes. the rear brakes on this car would probably be a shoes and drums system.
You bought a car off e.bay...? and you're suprised it's crap..?

i love buying cheap bangers off ebay...you get some right sheds!

Unless anyone has got a free car going? With MOT and tax...they need to get rid off?

Free to a good home...hmm?? :)
My sister worked at a VW dealership in the mid 1980's and sho thought that the new polos she sometimes drove had very bad breaks. Even compaired to the old Mk 1 Fiesta, Mk 4 Cortina and Viva she normally drove at the time.
