fixing curtain rails

Good morning

I want to fit a new curtain rail but the wall above the window is full of holes except where the lintel is position.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix a new curtain rail.

if it is plaster board,you can use plaster board fixings you get from wickes or b and q you just make a little hole with a screwdriver and screw in the plug ,then fix your rail tothem

Thanks Stellamad but it ain't plasterboard. My house is 1950's therefore bricks, lintels, plaster etc. etc.

Do you have any other suggestions?

If the lintel is where you want to put the rail there is no reason why you cannot drill and plug the lintel if it is a concrete lintel. Or if it is a metal lintel drill a 3mm hole and use a self tapping screw. I have done this hundreds of times as a fitter for Hillary blinds. The modern hardened wood chipboard screws also work into the metal lintel.

Perhaps you can start by filling in all the holes. When these have gone off continue as advised by mrpeter.

Thanks for your advice. All holes have been filled so will attempt to use self tapping screws. I am assuming I will need a special drill bit to drill into the metal lintel - is that correct?

No more special than a bit for drilling metal. You will also be able to use it for drilling wood and other soft materials.

What you could do is to fit a strip of wood across the opening ( using the tecniques already outlined) which can be painted. Then you can screw loads of ne mounting holes into that.
