Installing an exercise pole - DIY dilemma

Hi. I have purchased an exercise pole and want to install it in my living room, but my ceiling sounds pretty hollow when I knock on it. My floor however is solid (concrete I think...underneath the carpet which I don't mind cutting a hole out of). The pole only has to be securely fixed at one end (ideally at the ceiling) and the other end just extends and is held in place by a rubber stopper. My question is in two parts. 1. Do you think the pole would support my weight fixed in to the floor the same as it would (according to the manufactures) to a ceiling? & 2. How best to secure the fitting in to a concrete floor and what I might need to do this. I thank anyone in advance for helping me with this unusual DIY dilemma. ;-)

to be brief..

1 no not unless it is a scaffold pole, most excercise poles have a thin wall on them and are designed to take the strain hanging.

2 does it have fixing holes in base, if so drill into floor and fix using rawl bolts

your ceiling will have big wooden joists that it is fixed to, best bet is locate a joist and fix top to that through ceiling, that will be how the manufacture means when they say fix to ceiling.
