What on earth is a ditloid? At 58 years of age, I got an A and A* for English Language but I have never heard of the word ditloid. It is not in any of my dictionaries.

I think it's one of those puzzles that you have to guess the missing words that are related to numbers, ie

 

7 D in a W means 7 Days in a Week

Alexander Solzhenitsyn wrote a famous novel entitled 'One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich'. This gives the notion of 1 = DITLOID. Thus the word was chosen by a newspaper - the 'Daily Express', I believe - to represent puzzles of the sort: "What does 7 = DIAW mean?" It clearly means: "7 = Days in a week." It will doubtless appear in dictionaries eventually.
