CRB Check?

I've applied for a job and got it. When I applied I was told that a CRB Check would not be necessary as I wouldn't be working with patients. I've accepted the job and I've now been told that I need a CRB check because although I won't be coming into contact with patients, I will be coming into contact with their records. Am I allowed to dispute this as I was told that I woulnd't need one when I applied? If I'd have known a CRB check was necessary then I wouldn't have applied, now I've been backed into a corner. Can I do anything about it? No ignorant/rude comments please.

Employers have the right to request this at any time .

Also if need be send you for a Medical.

Drug tests .
also Can be used if an employer requests.

CheekyChops...I've been in trouble before and the conviction isn't spent. It gets worse...I didn't need a check for my current job and the job I applied for and accepted is an internal position. So if I balls up and make the wrong descision (eg, trying to blag it, or coming clean) I could not only have the offer withdrawn but I could lose my current job too. :(
InfoBank, I've passed the Occupational Health. I don't use drugs so I don't need to worry about that one either. Just the CRB thing...

The problem is that many, many jobs require a CRB check now. I work for a local council and don't have any contact with the public (except by phone), but I have to have a CRB check along with all the other council employees. I think a lot of companies are using CRB checks as ways to just check up on potential employees. I assume that refusing a check might be grounds for dismissal.

what type of CRB check is it? There are 2 types, a basic and a full.....

What was your conviction and when was it forced?

i think you fill in the crb form truthfully and wait and see, the job may not be dependant on the results, but if not, ask if the crb is not satifactory what will happen.
your old job should still be there for you as you got it on a no crb check.

Ah well. I told the truth and they withdrew the job offer and suspended me pending investigation. They were extremely annoyed that I didn't declare my conviction on the application form for the new job, and I also didn't declare it on my application for my current job which I've been doing for six months. Just have to wait and see I guess. :( If there are any parents reading this, please tell your kids not to get in trouble and do your best to make sure they don't...they really will regret it. :(
