Snowman Song Please

Nearly every christmas, there is a animation story of a flying snowman, what is the song on it please anyone?

It goes "we're walking through the air, we're flying in the air"

The song is by Aled Jones, a famous choir boy (now in his 30s and not sounding quite so angelic anymore!)  I think it's actually called 'Walking in the Air' too.

"Walking In The Air" is, indeed, the song from 'The Snowman' - but, surprisingly, it's not by Aled Jones! The actual soundtrack of the film was sung by another choirboy, Peter Auty.

 

Following the success of the film, (commissioned by an embryonic Channel 4 in 1982), the song was re-recorded by Aled Jones and released as a single in 1985. The single reached no.5 in the charts and catapulted the angelic choirboy to fame - with everyone assuming that it was him, Aled Jones, singing on the film soundtrack.

 

Peter Auty, the actual singer on the film, wasn't even mentioned in the end-credits due to the rush to finish the film's production. This omission was finally corrected after the film's 20th anniversary in 2002.

Do people really believe it was Aled Jones on the film? I'd always thought it was pretty much universally known he wasn't actually on it. When the criminally hacked-up 16:9 "remastered" version appeared in 2002 there was suddenly this whole business about "now Peter Auty can get the credit he deserves" but surely everyone knew it was Auty on the film anyway? Just like not one single person has ever been caught out by the "Bob Holness played on Baker Street" supposed urban myth.

Yes, I always believed it was Aled "bless him" Jones in the film. Right up until 30 seconds ago.

I have no idea what Bob Holness in Baker Street means either.

It was a long held myth that Bob Holness played saxaphone on the song "Baker street" Although Bob is an accomplished sax player, he himself denied it was him, and had no idea where the rumours came from.

The Bob Holness thing came from the NME. Stuart Maconie invented the "fact" that Holness played the sax on Baker Street as a filler on the joke page "Thrills". And nobody could have failed to notice it was simply a joke. It came to wider prominence when it was cited in the Guardian's "Notes & Queries", almost certainly still simply as a joke, prompting correspondence from Bob himself. It seems to be "Notes & Queries" that was responsible for starting the myth that anyone actually believed it was Bob on "Baker Street".
