im typing in this question again because i want more advice and because i want to add a few more details, i dont mind if the same people type in an answer.

would a magistrates court be the court a first-time offender, pleading guilty, goes to after carrying a knife on the streets?

the knife a kitchen knife, was been carried by hand but the person had no intention of doing any harm with it.. the person had no previous convictions.

As already said, the fact that he is a first time offender, or his guilty plea has no bearing on the matter.

It is a matter entirely for the magistrates on the day to decide where the case goes for sentence, and they will make that decision based upon the guidelines I have already outlined.

From what you say about the offence, it seems likley that the magistrates will retain the matter in their court.
