Ectopic Pregnancy, Methotrexate & Side Effects
Hi again everyone - i hope you are all well and those bumps are growin bigger! I just wanted some help/advice..................i had an ectopic pregnancy a month ago and while admitted to hospital decided to have something called a methotrexate injection (used in cancer patients) as a form of treatment instead of the surgery as i really wanted to save my fall tube (im quite young and havent yet started a family). I wanted to ask anyone if they have ever had this as a form of treatment for an ectopic & if so what sort of side effects did they suffer from? Also my doctor has advised me to wait 4 months before trying to conceive again and is this something similar to what other ppl have been told (any other literature i've read suggests waiting for at least one month just) Thanks guys xo

I had an ectopic pregancy just recently and was given 2 doses of the methotrexate injection. This is supposed to now be a common method for people who I guess are not suffering any pain and their tube has not been ruptured by the growing foetus. You must have been like me where you were not suffering any pain. It could have meant that the pregancy was failing anyway due to being in the tube and so the foetus was not growing and rupturing your tubes. I have been told by the early prenancy unit not to try for 3 months after the last dose. One of the specialists has told me that she has never seen someone have a 2nd ectopc pregancy after the injection and generally, patients go on to have normal births. I have seen it that we are fortunatley one of the lucky ones who did not have to have surgery. It is crap that we have experienced it anyway pariculary if the pregnancy was very much wanted. So you will be fine.
