I think some of the posters on AB will be surprised Ethel....you know, the ones that have gone strangely quiet. The same ones who were chastizing other posters for sterotyping this family, calling them chavs and under class. This woman has lived up to all the sterotypes that have been thrown at her....and more! Where are the great AB defenders now???
The thing that really amazes me (but doesn't surprise me) is the level of complete and utter plankiness of her. If you'r e going to set this farce up in front of the whole of the UK, you need to be squeaky clean and thorough.
I feel very sorry for the children, especially Shannon. What hope do they have of breaking the mold?

Now Now not all people that live on estates are bad it is the people like the mathews that give estates a bad name. And as for committing benefit fraud you don't have to live on an estate to do this .

I still think the likeliest scenario is rather boring.

Karen was having an affair with the man that 'kidnapped' Shannon and was plotting to leave the fishmonger.

She changed her mind - Shannon was taken and uncle threatened to tell fishmonger if Karen didn't move in,

She panicked and reported her missing.

And it snowballed.

Anybody could have asked the McCann for money - we still don't know who that was.

What does baffle me is that as she was claiming to be a sole parent - why weren't the CSA getting maintenance from the fishmonger?

My opinion is that she knew all along where Shannon was, and the grandmother etc were helping look after her. Trying to get monies out of the Madeleine fund (according to Clarence).Obviously this plan was not thought through properly, and the boyfriend didn't realise that the police would take the computers. It beggars belief. Why cannot people get jobs and use contraception unless they can afford to look after their own children.

didn't we all truly see this coming, from the start all of my friends, family, etc, said that there is more to this than meets the eye.god help us all when the next generation of this family and others like them rule the streets. stop all benefits tomorrow and there'll be a que a mile long at all job centres with people begging for work. there are jobs out there its just that this lazy generation dont want them. its a take take take society, none of this matthews mob have ever paid a ni stamp or income tax i suspect but just go cap in hand to the benefit office, council, etc and expect a living. shame on them.

wanting to work and having to work is a different thing ethel, if they had to work to survive then they would work or go without, starve, etc. i spend a lot of time in thailand, my wife is thai, over there there is no benefit scheme, no house if you have a child, no nhs, no handouts, they really have very little but they all want to or have to work..... work and survive or you dont stay alive. simple really.

Ethel you surprise me. I thought that an educated person such as you would have known better than to select a negative thing about Thailand, for every negative there are twice as many positives, that can be said about any country, any situation. You have chosen the child prostitution route, let me tell you that 99% of children in Thailand are not thrown into this sordid business, they all respect their elders, their parents and they take care of the parents in later life, unlike here in the UK! The crime rate in Thailand is nowhere near what it is here, no hoodies ruling estates, no mugging of pensioners, no drunken yobs hanging around the streets, no benefit cheating chavs! In thailand you are guilty if caught and must prove yourself innocent of any crime, unlike here where countless people get away with horrendous crimes or just get a slap on the wrist for crimes such as murder, armed robbery, child pornography, etc. We here in the UK have given way to the PC brigade, we cant do this, cant do that, cant say this cant say that. I'm of the generation that remembers when friends and neighbours looked out for each other, now I hardly know anyone in my street, unlike Thailand where whats yours is everyones, share and share alike, they would give you their last plate of rice. I could go on Ethel, I just feel a lot safer and more comfortable in Thailand, my wifes family have very little but are a lot happier than people here who have everything, all being well I will move there in the very near future and leave the UK with deep regret as to what is happening in 'my' home country.
