Problems with lymph nodes??

I had a swelling about two centimetres under my ear, next to my jawbone at the start of this year. It was about the size of a pea and really solid and hard. Went to the docs because it got bigger and was told to 'wait and see' and to come back if it continued to grow or started to hurt. I didn't go back but it's nearly gone now so I'm not all that worried.

The problem is, I now have another one! It's at the back of my neck just above the hairline and to one side of my neck bones. It's sort of turned into two lumps now, which also happened with the other lump.

I am just wondering what could be causing this? The doctor mentioned lymph nodes or an infection and maybe running some tests if the first one didn't go away. Is there any way to help my body get rid of it? It really is a little thing so reluctant to take time off to go back to the doctor.

TIA

The first node behind and below the ear has gone away, so no problem there. The two nodes below hair line would seem to indicate an on going infection in the scalp, eczema or scalp skin problem. Can't really b sure 100% that they are lymph node, but cannot think of any other likely problem. I think a "wait and see"policy would be indicated. if they disappear as number one did, then fine, but if they get bigger then tests will be necessary. My bet is that there is nothing to worry about.
Your doctor did right the first time - lymph glands do swell & subside but it's now over 3 months & you're still having problems so I'd go back asap & he should send you for a blood test.
Could be sebaceous cysts? (addition to the differential) also benign and can also be self limiting
MrXLA is spot on. Sebaceous Cysts, full of "cheesy material", NEVER cancerous and the scalp is a common site. No treatment required unless they become infected (rarely) or that they are "inconvenient" in some way i.e catch when combing your hair. Noone knows the cause and having them cut out is the only treatment. So please SaintAleia do not worry.
