Insurance cover for under 25's??
I recently was stopped by an off duty non uniformed policeman whilst in my dads parked up car - He took my details and left, 2 days later he turned up on my door step again on his own to confirm my insurance - I told him I had full comp insurance as a 2nd driver on a sports car shared with my brother and beleived I was allowed to drive another vehicle bcos I was insured fully on a vehicle.
He has told me I was illegal cos I am under 25 (by a month) and he will be taking it further cos I had no insurance for the car I was in at the time even though that vehicle is fully insured under my dads name.
This was a geniune " did not know" situation.
The police officer did not see me actually drive the vehicle???
He was quite rude in the manner he spoke to me aswell which I did not like.
I have not been in trouble with the police before.
Have any of you experienced similar???
let us know
Many thanks

I would be extremely surprised if your brother's insurance policy covers named drivers to drive any other vehicle.
Read the terms of the insurance policy very carefully and if you are still not clear about it - phone the insurance company and ask.
It is the only way you will know for sure.
We can all 'guess' whether you are insured in the circumstance you drive. Nobody here will know as they cannot see your policy.
Sitting behind the steering wheel of a car parked in a public place puts you in charge of the vehicle and you need to be insured.

thanks ethel,
my boyfriend was next to me in the car, the officer thought we looked suspicious and approached us - the car was turned off and we were just sat??
I have contacted insurance company and u were right they do not cover the named driver to drive any other vehicle - now that I was not aware of, this was all unintentional as I was sure I was covered.
