Can a tv that was bought in the UK work in South Africa. I am emigrating to SA and want to take my tele with me but someone said the frequency is different..help!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Most modern TVs will work on PAL, PAL1 or NTSC, becuae the circuitry is so cheap it is easier for the mannufacturers to mass produce sets that work anywhere. There is usually a set up menu that can enable you to change from one to the other. I do not say this is universally true, doubtless there are tvs that are different, so check carefully the specification of the set you are thinking of buying.
I can also confirm this as I have relatives there and their stuff is PAL I - no probs.
as another poster pointed out, shipping the darn thing there is not worth it these days, with sets being so cheap and the favourable exchange rate with the rand means you 'll be able to pick one up there for buttons!
