My wife and I own a property in joint names. I am the sole earner between us so although the mortgate is in joint names I am the only one paying it.

Is it possible to transfer the house into my wife's sole name, and if so, how can I get it done cheaply?

Even though you are the sole earner because the mortgage is in joint names the Mortgage Company will not agree to changing it to your wife's sole name. Once the mortgage has been paid off you can change the ownership of the house if you wish. Phone the Land Registry Office local to your address and they will help you. You should be able to complete it yourself with a small (less than 100) fee payable.
i'm confused MVS. if you are the only one paying the mortgage why would you want it put into your wifes name only?
The mortgage company won't take your name off the mortgage as your wife has no way of paying it.
Forgot to finish my paragraph.

The property cannot be put into one name if there are two names on the mortgage.

So no, you can't transfer the propetty to your wife's sole name until the mortgage is paid off.

Thanks Annie

Just to be clear, is it not possible to transfer the deeds of the house to her while I'm still paying the mortgage on it (or while we just have a joint mortgage)?
