Dodgy Driveway

I recently had a tarmac driveway laid which has already started to cut up because of shonky workmanship.

Although the company submitted an official quotation (although are not a registered company), I paid cash and the phone number has now disconnected and I cannot reach them.

Have I been stiffed or is there another method to sort this out?

Sounds very much like the 'travellers' who have visited certain areas in Bedfordshire, that badly lay or repair drives, then do a bunk. They also do not get rid of the rubble in a lawful way, but dump it on Industrial Estates, after everyone has gone home! If the contractors telephone line is unobtainable, I don't think you have a hope in hell of getting them back to rectify the work done.

Sorry to hear this. ALWAYS get references and ALWAYS check them. Never work with an unregistered company. There's a reason they aren't registered. Consider it a lesson learned.

The sad thing is that you have come out better off than a number of people.  At least they did some kind of job and left.  Now you just have to sort out a resultant problem.  I know this doesn't help you but many people are taken in by some story or other about having materials left over and doing the job for a couple of hundred quid on the side, only to be presented with a bill for 8 grand when it's finished and being terrorised until they pay.
