I am taking a trip to Huntly in Scotland from Redditch nr Birmingham. We have a pug 206 1.6 16v and a 1.3 astra saloon both are 2002 models. which car would be better on fuel consumption. There will be two us with minimum lugauge. please help
I would take the 206. Bigger engine so it will find it easier on a longer journey to chug along at 70 than the 1.3 engine with two of you + luggage. The reason being the more strained an engine is worked, the more uneconomical it'll be.
well it's not like it is a trans-continental trip so the small fuel consumption differences will not be a massive issue so take whatever you you feel more comfortable driving, think I'd go for the pug.
Sorry to be awkward but I'd rather pay slightly more in fuel and take the astra purely because of the space within the vehicle and the 206 has off centred pedals which bear slightly right,I've done a very similar journey in a 206 recently and arrived feeling perfectly refreshed, but the extra weight of the astra on the motorway inspires more confidence when hgv's pass etc, there may be a tiny more engine noise from the astra but you have a good luggage cappacity
