I keep seeing recommendations for Avon Skin so Soft which is quite cheap. Have bought some but not had the chance to try it yet. Did buy some patches that you stick on and last for 36 hours, sorry can't remember the name but they were about 10.00 a packet, lasted to cover a 2 wk holiday. Went to Panama, Columbia, Costa Rica and Nicaragua and only got one bite so they work if you want to pay the money.
It does work, I have tried it and it smells good too!
i had heard that stuff was good for midgies but did not know if good for Mozzies. I have used boots own insect repellant and that was good. Also a friend had some little wrist band things they were great in kenya(perhaps you can find on internet). I dont know if cheap is the best option to go for but if you are bothered by them then make sure you apply regularly and use a plug in in your room.
Boots own repellant is good, and doesn't smell too bad either. They also sell a plug in mosquito killer with refills. I also use a spray called gardener natural insect repellant. You can buy that from www.thearomatherapycompany.co.nz

If you get bitten, try VAPE Derm Herbal patches. They stop the itching.

Thanks everyone, i was told once that the Spaniards use water and some sort of lemon Juice, which is really cheap, but dont know if that is an old wifes tale.
i heard they don't like lavender or aloe vera?
They don't like Vitamin B - take a B vitamin complex (tablet)for a week or so before you go away and whilst you are away, and eat Marmite.
i had a vitamin d deficency when i was younger and they munched me all over every summer. i started taking supplements and they stopped!
Beanebabe is right, vitamin B1 makes your blood and skin smell (very subtley so we're not aware of it but they are) and they do not like it and won't bite you!

But you need to start taking it about a fortnight before you go away so that it gets time to work. Keep taking it while you are out there and it should keep them at bay!
I went to Kenya a few years ago and brought the Jungle strength stuff from Boots for going on safari presuming I needed higher protection. Turns out the best protection I already had with me as it was the Boots Aftersun with repellent in it. I got 2 bites in 3 weeks and that was because I momentarily stepped outside of the room before applying more aftersun after my shower. So it does work!!
