Further to my previous thread I need some more info on Memory cards as my techie knowledge is zilch. A Sandisk 4GB SDHC at Amazon is 9.98 and at Argos 44.99; a Sandisk 2GB SD at Amazon is 2.99 and at Argos 34.99. Why the vast difference in price, and how many photos would I get with a 2GB; also what is the difference between an SDHC and an SD? Would a 2GB possible be large enough for everyday/holiday use which I will eventually download to my PC? Sorry to be such a plonker.

A 2gb card is more than enough for your holiday needs.

SDHC is secure digital high capacity, and unless your hardware (camera, pc etc) can read them they will be no use to you.

Check the postage on that Amazon card - the reviews mention �10 p&p per card. I would also be concerned about the genuineness of the item - the price is simply too cheap and there are a lot of fakes out there.

my last 2GB one came from Costco and cost about �8, but they don't advertise prices online so I can't double-check. Cheap ones may be fake but aren't necessarily. 2GB will probably hold about 600 photos depending on camera size; personally, I take more than that on a holiday but most people don't

this is a site you can trust ... use it as a measure of the sort of prices that are reasonable.

as with all things there are different quality components ...
these cards are built either for price ... or for reliability or speed ...

with a camera over 10Mpix the resulting file size is huge ... so transfering it to a card can take ages you can buy fast cards ... but they cost

with a snapper ... small files .... you can pay less ... and concentrate on capacity.

finally the latest 32Gb cards cost an arm and a leg ... give it six months and they'll cost �15 ... the 2Gb cards will be being given away in the sun ....

Thank you all so much, so do any cards fit any camera? Assistants normally know as much as me, so I can't be bothered to ask them. Just want to take lots of holiday snaps and then transfer to my PC. Can I buy any make of card then, will they all work? Think I'll go for the Amazon 2G at their price.

If your camera takes an SD card then buy SD but some cameras use other types of card. You can use any brand it doesn't matter. I think most digital cameras use SD. I was just flicking through a catalogue and had a quick look and the first few I looked at used SD so I am only assuming. Open your camera up and look at the memory device to see what it says on it.
