Meadowsweet as a stomach ache cure

Has anyone tried the herbal remedy Meadowsweet [brand name Potter`s Acidosis]  to cure horrendous IBS-like symptoms? 

I ask because although I`ve only been taking it for a week the change in the condition has been unbelievable.  I only hope it`s not coincidental.

   All comments much appreciated.

meadowsweet is a calming influence on the stomach and has other uses as a relief from indigestion and gastro intestinal conditions..meadowsweet contains salicin which is the herbalists bicarbonate of soda..being it suits you have you thought of growing your own ,and making a herb tea from it..you can purchase all herb seeds at suffolk herbs ..they have an internet site,,also why dont you purchase holland and barrats meadowsweet as its cheaper than potters.. meadowsweet combines well with parsley and black horehound if you have flattulance..and before anyone attacks me for talking medical ..i have an advanced herbalist diploma..so i know what i am talking about..and would not tell anyone anything unsafe...glad it suits you as sometimes its trial and error with herbs,,best of luck gypsy

I suffer with IBS so could you keep me updated as to whether this continues to work as I hate taking prescribed drugs for it?  Thanks, Karen

Will do, Karen...............I`ve suffered for years and am still having hospital check-ups but having been nagged by the better half to try this stuff I`ve found it amazing.  Keeping all fingers crossed.

Isn't salicin more closely related to aspirin than bicarbonate of soda gypsy?I thought it was a precursor of salicylic acid which is aspirin.I might be wrong but if so,would meadowsweet be harmful to people who are allergic to asprin?

the herbalist ..bicarbonate of soda is a figure of speech..the meadowsweet contains asprin like substance but not asprin itself.salicylates is an asprin like compound that reduces inflammation and relieves pain.....just for information meadowsweet was one of the sacred herbs of the druids...it is easy to grow and i would urge anyone with a garden to grow their own herbs as you get loads of seeds in packets..and you can dry the flowers and store in jars and make your own herb tea which will be a lot cheaper and fresher than the shops..just as a word of caution meadowsweet is not normally prescribed to people that are hypersensitive to asprin as allthough it isnt asprin the compounds are very similar,,,people that cant use asprin should use slippery elm products as thats safe.for them..best of luck everyone ,,,gypsy

as an after thought go to the herb society uk as they have a forum on herbs and uses it is really interesting ...if anyone wishes to buy herbs allready grown really cheap go to barwinnock herbs,,i have used them and they are great..fast delivery and the herbs are ready for planting...they cost approx �1.50p a plant.. gypsy
