We have several of these trees at the end of our garden, which we don't want. As these trees are not near the house I was wondering if there was anything that could be poured onto the roots, rather than having the trees chopped down? I am trying to save money as it seems quite pricey to bring in tree surgeons to do the job.

heavily salted water works a treat !
I seem to remember something about copper nails in the trunk to kill trees. The trees will still be there though if you kill them, only they'll possibly look worse.
Kill them or not theyll have to come out sometime, so little tip-, cut them off shoulder high, cut low down and you have no leverage when grubbing out.
Cut them down to a stump, then drill large holes in the top of the stump and pour creosote into the holes
ballpen, I don`t think you can get creosote anymore as it`s I believe illegal to use it now. I`d try Brush wood killer instead.
