my computers under attack

everytime my computer is on i get a big red cross in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and keeps asking me to download spyware to get rid of it but i know if i do i will get more viruses also it keeps changing my internet home page to something else asking me to download spyware even though i keep changing my homepage back to what it should be it keeps changing back how do i sort it all out i have norton security and that cannot get rid of it

Try visiting http://www.lavasoft.com and download Adaware or google for Spyboy Search and Destroy. They should shift it.

I would suggest putting your mouse on the cross and it should tell you what it's called,don't click it tho ! Then go to add/remove and remove from there,or look for any program you definately dont know of and remove that,it's obviously been downloaded sometime or another.

Find the name of the program, but post it here. You cna be sure that even if it has an entry in Add/Remove, you wont be able to.

downloaded spybot. tried it on my computer and the computer has now crashed. can't get anything on. will have to run the system restore disc. thanks anyway.
