Sub-total hysterectomy
8 Answers
I had a sub-total hysterectomy three weeks ago today which was done by keyhole surgery. I was out the next day, had no bleeding or discharge and felt fantastic.
I have suddenly had slight period pain and two days of bleeding which I didn't expect. I now have looked up on the web and found the 6% of women still can have periods as they leave the cervix and the neck of the womb. So cross that I wasn't warned about this. Is is likely to be period bleeding as my period would be due around now or post heeling bleeding. Doctor at the hospital has not phoned me back yet and I am anxious to know!!

i had a subtotal hyster on friday not keyhole so a hip-to-hip scar. had ovaries taken but opted to keep cervix and was warned that that might entail having slight periods in future but on HRT so would be minimised. Apparently the 'frill' left round the internal part (inside where uterus was) of the cervix will carry on building then discharging blood as if it was all still there and having a monthly cycle.
hope this helps

My op was now last summer and I have had no bleeding or problems since thank goodness. Should have had it done years ago. I still have my ovaries and cervix so am fairly normal hormone wise at the moment, well as normal as I will ever be!! They did say that the menopause could happen earlier than it would have done because of the womb being removed.
