Delivery complaint
Not sure if this is in the right category but couldn't find one appropriate! Yesterday a guy delivered my television, amongst other things, in a transit van. I got him out of the yellow pages. When we arrived at my new house, it had fallen on its front (the screen) - to which he said "oops!"
Getting it home was no problem, but now when I watch it the colours have all changed, and there's a large green patch on the screen. It has clearly visibly been damaged. Does anyone know what I can do to get this repaired and paid for? Should I speak to the yellow pages directly? Should I call the delivering company to explain? Will they be naturally insured for this kind of thing? Just really want my telly fixed as it was quite expensive! Any help on this would be really appreciated.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.If the problem is as described by senga-marie then the TV needs de-gaussed (if it's a CRT TV, i.e. not LCD or plasma), but dropping it on its face wouldn't cause this, but dropping it might cause this sort of problem if it is an LCD or plasma. You should contact the delivery company (yellow pages only provide the number) and explain the problem and that you want some compensation. Though, if they got you to sign a 'safe delivery' form, stating that all goods arrived in good nick, and you signed it, then you don't have a leg to stand on
If you were moving house and you used a removal firm they may have been insured, tho some man and van services are taken on the risk of the buyers. You may find that your house insuarnce covers your property in transit too - when we moved house, we were offered extra insurance by the removal company, but found it wasn't required becuase our contents policy already covered such situs.
is this by any chance a projection (big screen) television? if so the problem may be much more of a problem than you think and much more expensive. i would definitely call the delivery company and explain the issue. if the tele is new you may be able to bring it back where you got it and get a new one if there is no visible damage.
