Can anyone help? In Word I want to create a series of boxes with text inside, linked by arrows. This I can do. However I also want to put some text outside these boxes, how do I do it without a creating a text box first?
Many thanks.

If you are talking flowchart ? ....
I think the answer is - you don't.

instead create a text box, and in properties just kill the borders ...
Make sure drawing tool bar is showing (View -toolbars-tick drawing) On autoshapes select flow chart connect the boxes with the arrow to write in the boxes insert a text box So that the text box line doesn't show right click on the line and then format text box and line colour pick no line

To make sure the arrows are straight hold down shift key
If it is flow charts your trying to do it maybe a lot easier to use a program designed for doing just that rather than word, there is a free one I use here
