i have deleted a user account on xp and havnt backed up any of the files or folders. After system restoring to a date before the accont was deleted, i now have it back but all the files and folders have gone.

After searching for hidden files, i have found them all in a folder called recent documents. I am however unable to open them. How do i restore these files back so i can use them???

Recent documents won't contain the files, but just references to them. System restore does not recover deleted files. You need an undelete utility such as this one:
