Laying a new garden on top of sharp sand?
4 Answers
Is this possible? I have recently bought a house and the whole front garden was slabbed. I have dug up the slabs and created a new path down the middle of the garden and i would like to have a lawn at either side of this path. I have been told that the sharp sand will be fine as it has good drainage purposes but i am worried about putting soil and turf on top incase it isn't. Can some give me some advice please? Also if it's ok how deep should the soil be?

Lightly fork your sand into the soil below it,and add about 3 ins of top soil- this will help the lawn as probably when the slabs were used ,top soil was removed to create a level surface. This top soil can be levelled and once you have firmed the surface, your turf can be put down. This weather is ideal for establishing your turf. Hope this is of help
