How do you cancel a credit card?
4 Answers
Sounds like it should be a simple thing to do but I will be blowed if I can find out how to do this (I'm deaf and cant use the customer service telephone number)
The card in question is a Mastercard issued by one the High Street Banks. There is no outstanding debt on the card, infact it is 20 in credit and I just don't need it anymore.
I was hoping I would be able to cancel via the Banks website. It seems I can conduct all my other Bank business here but I can't seem to find anywhere where I can cancel this card! Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?
I have wrote to my bank asking how to do this (Twice) and this morning I received a 'Thank you for your credit card application' letter ...... Arghhhh!
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

You will also need to cut up your card and send it back. The bank will forward your letter to the correct department.
I really can't see your problem, they wouldn't do it over the phone or website anyway, they need your signature to close it.

Don't send the whole card back - send the bit with the first half of the number only.
It's much safer.
The address will be on your credit card statement.
Dear Sir,
Re Credit Card Number...........
Please close this credit card account and refund any credit due to me by cheque.
Be assured I have safely disposed of the other half of the card.
Yours sincerely,
