Cardiff - it is now believed that Cardiff (Welsh "Caerdydd") means the fort (Welsh "Caer") of Antonius Didius (The Roman under whom the fort was founded).

London - according to Geoffrey of Monmouth London was named for King Lud but this is largely discounted now. It is now thought the name London is derived from a Celtic term meaning flooding river "Lundonjon" and then "Lundein" or "Lundyn"

Edinburgh - popular belief - named for Edwin of Northumberland
