painting over black marker pen

my son graffiti'd his bedrrom door with black marker pen. i have tried to paint over it using white silk but it is still visible after several coats.

switching to another, darker colour is one option but if I used a different type of white paint eg gloss would this work better than silk?

Silk will never cover it, as youve found out lol

Couldnt you have removed the pen marks or used tipp-ex over it first? hairspray mightve removed some of it as would vanish you can still try this through the silk that hasnt worked anyway !

Gloss covers more but black will still possibly shine thro a single coat. Giving it a light sanding first on the dark bits before painting would also help.

Use lots of hairspray. That will remove it.

hairspray is brill on any ink, even on clothing if caught before its laundered it disintegrates the ink then washes out
