help! Bitch in season for first time

Can anyone give me advice??please...I have 2 yorkies, 1 neutered male(2) & an 8mth old bitch. He is not the problem. She is trying to kill him I think. Today she's attacked him 3 times-totally unprovoked he's just minding his own business poor thing. Anyway I'm keeping them apart but this in itself is a nightmare especially with a child in the house. She only has to look at him to get mad. I've spoken to vet who tells me I need to keep them apart for about another 2 weeks. I'm worried as well that they may never get on again after this. If I'd have known she was going to be this bad I'd have had her neutered before 1st season. Any help/advice will be very much appreciated as at moment I'm really worried about this situation in my home. Thanks

As a temporary solution would it be possible to put her in boarding kennels for a couple of weeks? Maybe you have a friend or relative that could have her, or even her breeder may be willing to have her back for a couple of weeks.

Hormones can make most females change temperament and get a bit grumpy!

Seriously where a child is involved it is very difficult and you don't want to take any chances of the child getting caught up in the fray.

She will probably settle down after her season, but I would definately get her spayed as soon as you can.

Most bitches will see off a male dog's attentions during their season, apart from the couple of days when they are 'ready' to be mated, at which time they will give them the glad eye and the come on! They will even escape to find a mate, so be careful if you let her out in the garden. This can vary any time from about day 8 to day 18, but is usually about day 10 - 12. You will probably be able to tell because she will stand with her tail up in the air, and flick it from side to side if you stroke her back.

However, most will only tell the dog off, but if yours is getting really nasty then for his sake I'd get him out of the way for a week or two. She should return to normal after the season, and the best time to have her spayed is about three months after, i.e. halfway between seasons.

Thanks for your advice people...I've tried to introduce them again today by way of holding her near him to see how she reacts. It's really strange because she's wagging her tail at him but then goes crazy growling & snarling at him. Feel sorry for him as well because he hasn't got a clue what he's done to upset her but he's aware to keep out of her way. It's just a really stressful situation which really only a dog owner/lover will understand. I'm going to see if maybe my mother-in-law will take one of them temporarily when she gets back from hols on Tues......roll on Tues.
