browser refresh

im unfortunately using a dial up connection at the moment but it keeps disconnecting after 20 mins of inactivity ,so is there a way of making my browser refresh every few minutes so i can keep downloading stuff whilst im not sitting at the pc? thanks

Not too sure. Try this though: Click 'tools'.....'internet options'.....'connections'.....'settings'.....then 'advanced'. Make sure you untick the box 'disconnect if idle for 20 minutes'. That should sort the problem hopefully.

If that is not the problem and it is your ISP that is cutting you off for no activity, then set your email client to collect mail every minute and leave it running in the background.

 

If you have access to Web space you could put up an auto refreshing page to leave your browser on when you pop away, or in the background if you are taking a long look at something else. The magic here is to include something like the following between the HEAD tags of your page. Let's assume your page is at http://www.mypage.co.uk/myage.htm then the code is

<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="30; url=http://www.mypage.co.uk/mypage.htm">

The 30 means 30 seconds and you can alter this to suite your needs.

 

Failing that, there's a freeware utility called Connecion Keeper, that queries sites.
