Insect box

My Mum would like an Insect box for the garden, I have found a number of different types ie for ladybirds, butterflies etc. Are any of these effective? Do they attract insects & can anyone recommend where to buy from?

Me again- whilst I'm at it. Do the small animal boxes attract hedgehogs, frogs etc or are they just a gimmick?

Don't know if they work or not, but www.gardenbird.com sell  a solitary bee house, a butterfly box and a ladybird house.  My local garden centre also sells the ladybird house.
