PC memory
6 Answers
Hi all
Has anyone bought memory from play.com?
I'm looking for 1Gb PC3200 DDR boards and their price is less than half what they charge at the nice shop down the road. Seems too good to be true. Can any of you clever experienced bods comment?
Thanks in anticipation.

Even if one hasn't turned up, I've just phoned them and they've mailed a replacement. They're a well respected retailer. I think part of their savings come from operating out of Jersey and part from not having to pay rent on physical shops. And of course they don't have helpful people behind the counter to pay like your local shop; if you want one, support your local retailer; if you don't, shop over the internet.
Not brought from play but have from amazon and there prices are about the same, if not cheaper.
Yes computer memory is very cheap if brought online, don't let it worry you it's the same stuff as you would buy from the shop just half the price.
play and amazon are large reputable sites so you should have no concerns from buying from them.

The issue isn't the supplier. Play is very likely to be less than your local computer shop (who seem to generally be very expensive).
The issue is with the manufacturer of the RAM itself.
1) Make sure you get the correct stuff -- right speeds, etc.
2) Go for a brand like Crucial or Kingston.
Use kingston's website to scan your PC and tell you what memory you need. Then either buy direct from them or somewhere else, just stick to the same specifications for the RAM.
