R I P Humphrey Lyttleton - you will be missed...

Personally, I will miss your chairmanship on I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue which I have listened to from the beginning and was priviliged to have been present at several of the recordings over the years dating back to the days of the late, great Willie Rushton.

I'm happy (or should that be sad?) to join in the tributes to 'Humph'. There was a good obit in the Independent:

I wonder whether 'Clue' can go on without him? It seems unlikely but 'Last of the Summer Wine' survived the death of Bill Owen (when it seemed impossible to make the series without Compo), 'Just A Minute' carried on without Kenneth Williams (and my personal favourite, Peter Jones) and 'The News Quiz' has come through the loss of its number one star, Alan Coren. So who can take over from Humph?

Seriously though, I think it would have to be an 'insider' - my personal preference being Graeme Garden.

Having said that, I really think ISIHAC is a special case, and that Humph is irreplaceable - I would rather see the programme finish.

Not that it was past its best; on the contrary, it improved with age - but I'd rather see it go out on a high than deteriorate and wither away.

On reflection, maybe Jack Dee - he's been a guest IIRC, and has got the right kind of deadpan delivery, sarcasm and timing.

Apparently Rob Brydon has filled in whilst he was ill. No doubt he will be too busy to take over permantley. I dont suppose anyone can really.

I saw the team recording a couple of shows last year. Humph will be greatly missed.

If the carry on, it would be a mistake to promote Graeme, Barry, Tim or any other of the regular panelists to the chair, because their contributions are equally as integral to the show.

Sandy Toxic would be my choice. She has guested a few times, and is a giggler.

I listened to the classic ISIHAC on Sunday morning whilst driving back from Sheffield, I had almost forgotten just how funny Willie Rushton was, both these gentlemen will be/are greatly missed
