Working Temperatures
I have read the replies about working tempatures but am still at a loss as I work in a biscuit factory where the temperature is high in the week (due to production ( hot ovens etc)) but cold on the week ends ( no production).
I have complained about this but was told that because we move about the minimum ( I was given a word for this but did not know what it meant so asked the meaning and told "moving about") temperature is 4 degrees.
We were given thermal vests (one each)

If it is lower than that then Health & Safety can close the workplace until the temperature has increased. For offices, shops etc, there is no legal maximum stated by the Offices Shops and Railway Premises Act or the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Factories, particularly those manufacturing food, may have very different rules. Do you have a union representative? If not, ask your Health & Safety representative. There should be a poster in the workplace, stating the rules and giving the name and extension number of your Health and Safety representative.
