Breastfeeding - manual breast pump

Hi everyone, I have been breast and formula feeding my little one for over 2weeks now and although she is brilliant at latching on and taking from a bottle, I am having problems with my breast pump! I have been using it for 2weeks without a problem (it's an Avent Isis manual pump) but the past 2 days I express less than 1oz and then it stops, it's like there is no vacuum / suction. Baby still feeds fine from the breast so I can only assume she is getting more than I am able to! Has anyone else had this problem when expressing? Could it be me or the pump? Anyone have any other pump reccommendations? Many thanks xx

Hi natalie, I was having the same problem when I was solely breastfeeding. It was ok to start with but then I would struggle to even get a few drops! I was using a Tommee Tippee closer to nature manual pump. Unfortunately, my persistance in trying caused my nipples to bleed!
i too had this problem. Are you trying to pump when she is due a feed? Obviously the less you feed, the less milk "comes in" and it "comes in" when your daughter is due a feed.

As i started formula and breast feeding the milk started to come in less and pumping manually was a big struggle.

So perhaps you're just not producing as much milk as you were when you were fully breast feeding. x
AND i broke two breast pumps! Mustve been a bit too aggressive, although it is hard work! If i have anothe ri think i'll be purchasing an automatic. x
hi nat, i had the same breast pump for babygaga.
i had the same problem and i found it was the rubber sheild thay your breast fits in, it was not on properly and - no suction.
i pressed it right in to the plactic sheild thing and it should mould right in to the shape of the plastic with no or very little air.
hope this helps
ive just had to return an electric medela pump as i had opposite problem, it would suck and then the motor cut out without releasing me lol

eww and the lady in boots said she couldnt refund me as they dont sell it in that branch so wouldnt be able to resell it!!!!

try hot compresses to help your let down reflex
Spend a couple of days, pumping as much as you can and using little formula that way you will increase your milk supply.

Check the pump is assembled perfectly. There needs to be a vaccuum created. You might need a new rubber part for the top!

Thanks for all your answers, yesterday I seemed to be able to express more than usual and today slightly less, although she has been feeding on the breast more today. I will try some of your suggestions xx
